The University Council has appointed Professor Samuel Allemann as professor of pharmaceutical care in the Faculty of Science. Furthermore, the university has initiated the process to select a successor to President Professor Andrea Schenker-Wicki and has confirmed several additional academic appointments.
Professor Samuel Allemann has been assistant professor of pharmaceutical care in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences since 2021. He will take up his new position on 1 August 2026.
Samuel Allemann studied pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Basel and earned his doctorate in 2017. He also holds a Swiss federal diploma in pharmacy and worked as a clinical pharmacist for Solothurner Spitäler and as an expert for the Swiss pharmacists’ association pharmaSuisse. Following a postdoctoral stay at the University of Lyon I, he returned to the University of Basel, where he was appointed assistant professor in 2021.
Professor Allemann develops data-based approaches for personalized pharmaceutical care. His research combines pharmacogenetics, medication adherence and interprofessional medication management with the aim of making the use of medication in chronic and complex diseases safer, more effective and more suitable for everyday use. He develops and evaluates pharmacy-led services, digital support and monitoring approaches and new care models for primary care.
A particular focus is on the question of how personalized pharmaceutical interventions can be successfully integrated into routine care. His methodological approach is practical and uses routine data, electronic health data and various qualitative and quantitative methods, among other things. In this way, he contributes to the advancement of personalized medicine and to quality-oriented healthcare.
